SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Miracle Monocle accepts both electronic and paper submissions year-round.

ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS

Direct electronic submissions to submit(at)miraclemonocle(dot)com. The subject line should indicate the genre of your submission (e.g., “Poetry Submission”). Within the body of the e-mail, include your name, the title(s) of your submission(s), your e-mail address, and a brief bio (350 characters or less) written in the third person. Following your introduction, paste your submission(s) directly into the body of the e-mail. We will not open attachments.

If submitting through the postal service, write the genre of your submission in the forwarding address. Example:

FOR FICTION

Please limit your submission to 5,000 words and submit one piece at a time. For paper submissions, please double-space.

FOR POETRY AND MICROFICTION

Include the title at the beginning of each poem or microfiction piece. You may include up to five (5) pieces in your submission. There is no word limit for poetry submissions. Please limit microfiction pieces to 500 words or less.

FOR VISUAL ART

Send a small representative sample of your work, along with a brief description of your particular submission/project to submit(at)miraclemonocle(dot)com. We'll contact you if we'd like to see more.

FOR BOOK REVIEWS AND INTERVIEWS

Send us an inquiry e-mail with your proposal for a book review or interview to info(at)miraclemonocle.com. We'll contact you if we'd like to discuss your idea in greater detail.

PAYMENT

Currently, we offer a modest award for the best piece of each issue as decided by an impartial judge with no ties to the University of Louisville. In the future, however, we hope to offer compensation for all accepted writers—just give us time.

CAVEATS

Submissions must be previously unpublished. Simultaneous submissions are welcomed; however, please notify us immediately if your submission is accepted elsewhere, in which case we’ll send you, via good vibrations, our hearty congrats. We ask that contributors wait until a new issue is published before submitting again.

LEGALESE

Miracle Monocle acquires first North American serial rights to published works, with all rights reverting to the author upon publication.
